| Working....on a Saturday?!?!?! |

| | A saturday, working in pajamas | ] | Ok, yes, I am working right now, yes, it is 8:30 am when i'm posting this, but i'm actually still in my Pajamas. I'm patched into work from home, and i'm updating and rebooting servers. So it's not as horrible as most people would think. I pretty much VPN in, in my pajama's, open up my remote desktop, in my pajamas, and click buttons, in my pajamas. And I get comp time for this, and it allows me to take an extra day off once I get 8 hours. So it's not too bad.
Yesterdays trek to Cheeseburger in Paradise went well, I had some mini-cheeseburgers and Tori had a regular cheesesburger. I had a pina colada and Tori had another drink called a Euphoria, and we had some of the best fried onions in the city (you have to go there, if not just for their onion six string, they are addicting, you continue to eat them even if you are full). After that we went to Magic Mountain for a little bit, to talk to Lewis who is going to play the guitar during the ceremony for us, for free (Lewis was the office worker when I worked there, he's a great guy.) Alright, back to patching servers. |

| | Whatever is playing in iTunes right now | ] | Alright Tori, i'll bite on this little game, just because i'm bored and sitting in the server room creating an iMac/Ubuntu Farm.
1. Grab the nearest book. 2. Open it to page 161. 3. Find the fifth sentence. 4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions. 5. Don't search around and look for the coolest book you can find. Do what's actually next to you.
"If you don't have enough RAM to give it to them in a multiple application environment, consider running a smaller number of applications simultaneously"
I'll let all of you decide how you want to take that sentence.
Oh yeah, and i'd be surprised it anyone actually knew what the heck I was doing building an iMac/Ubuntu farm. I'll give props to anyone who actually does.
The job is going really well, i'm still enjoying working, even though things have slowed down considerably which means i'm bored more often than not (hence the farm thing)
Alright, i'm going to go play nibbles on the system that just finished installing. |

| | Confused about what to do | ] | Hey...look everyone. Brad updated his journal...amazing...
Anyway, i'm sure most of you already know what's going on with the whole Wedding plans. I'm so confused about what we should do. None of this would be a problem had I not backed out in January, so I do feel partially responsible, but I've made major strides in my life to keep from losing Tori. It seems like every time we take 2 steps forward, someone or something pushes us back 5 steps. It's an uphill battle. I really don't want to push the wedding back, I think April 29th is a great date for us, and I had a really good feeling about it. I was excited for it. But I don't want to isolate Tori's mom from this whole thing. She sees this as being too soon, and that we won't be able to get anything done, but pretty much everything IS done. We rebook the reception hall, we rebook or change the photographer, DJ and videographer, I get the friends who are going to play the ceremony the music they need, and we get the dress/my slacks hemmed. We rebook the cake lady, the flower lady, and get the dresses made for the bridesmaids. Most of that is just simply rebooking things, so it won't take long at all.
The new job is going well. I'm enjoying working there. It is a really good environment, and i'm learning a lot as I go along. I get nothing but compliments from the System Engineers whenever they come in, along with the leads of the group. Tomorrow I get another free lunch at Gordon Biersch for the meeting, so that is another plus. Plus the paychecks aren't bad either.
Well, we'll see if it takes another week, (or maybe 2, or 3) weeks before I update again. |

| New Job |

| | Just got back from my new job. | ] | Well, today was my first day at my new job. It's downtown in the arena district (litteraly, right next to the arena, above frog, bear and wild boar). It a pretty nice place, i'm a consultant out there for ICC, working with a company called resource interactive. They are an advertising/web design company here in Columbus that works with companies like Wendy's, Reebok, Wal-mart, etc. The building is really trendy, has that psuedo-industrial look and feel, where you can see the vents and cabling, brick all over the place. They also have all this weird artwork on the wall, and the carpets look like someone spilled paint on it in spots (which i'm sure is the way it's supposed to look :) ). They have a stop light hanging on the celing, and a glass staircase. So it's very trendy. Their main color scheme is a lime green. Overall, it should be a pretty good job, i'm working with computers (mostly Windows and Macs), the people there are really nice, and i'm sure i'm going to learn alot there (:p Tori, I know alot is supposed to be two words). Today we had to deal with the a Linux server being down, which they assured me is not something they deal with ALOT ( ;P ). Tommorow, i'm setting up my workstation, not sure if i'm getting a desk or sitting at the counter tops near the kitchenette area (where they have like, 12 kinds of tea, coffee and hot chocolate stocked up). I'll keep this updated with progress as I go along. |

| New Job |
[Jan. 27th, 2006|07:46 am] |
So I offically have a new job now. I got the call on Wendesday afternoon, and about an hour later I put in my resignation at Calltech. My last day there will be on February 8th. I then start the new job on February 9th. I still haven't gotten the details about where it is that i'll be going the first day, but Keith, the recruiter i've been working with, thinks that i'll be downtown near the arena district. It'll be a bit of a weird job, because I may not know exactly where i'm going until the end of the day, or even that morning. I'm a "consultant" so i'll be working at a few different buildings, wherever it is that they need me.
I also got the information about benefits. The benefits are definatly set up for a single person who is in decent health. I'll be saving money right now with this benefits package, because it's only 30 bucks a month, the copays are on the higher side of normal (most services have a $20 copay), but the dental benefits aren't bad at all. The perscription coverage isn't that great, which I really don't need it right now, but if Tori does get on my benefits, it won't be that great. I'm also waiting on getting my expense reimbursment package, to see what I can get reimbursed, mostly dealing with Travel. If I have to go to 2 or 3 different places a day, I wanna see if they reimburse you for gas for that.
I'll keep everyone updated about the specifics of the job as I find out. |

| Opportunity abounds, and I still feel like sh!t |
[Jan. 18th, 2006|12:22 pm] |

| | Not sure which way to go. | ] | So, I just got back from my 2nd job interview in the past 3 days. 2 Different companies, both consulting firms. The first company is looking to get me a contract to hire position with the Limited, which means i'm working for them, but work at the Limited, for a specified amount of time, and if I do well there, after a pre-determined amount of time, I could possibly be hired by them.
The other company is looking at me for an internal position. I'm still a consultant, but i'll be doing alot of different projects. This job has alot less risks.
I still don't know the pay rates for the second job, the first one would pay me $17 an hour, i'd get benefits after 90 days, and I could possibly be placed in a permanent position at the Limited.
The second job, I don't have a pay rate for, but the number $15 was thrown out as an essential 'minimum', so it could be higher than that. I'd get benefits immediately, medical, vision, and dental, not sure about prescription coverage yet. It'd be less than i'm paying right now, not sure what type of coverage it is, but it would start immediately.
For both job I need to do a second interview, the first job with someone from the Limited, but there's a chance we might not even get to the interview if they don't like my resume, the second interview with the second job is pretty much Guaranteed, and it's a more technical interview, to make sure i'm a good match.
Yet, with all these opportunities, I still feel like sh!t for what happened. It's weird, before all this stuff happened, I never got any calls on any of the resumes I put out, (and I put out quite a few, not as many as I have recently, but I still had some out there). Now, I'm getting alot of other opportunities, and it's confusing me. Is all of this supposed to mean something? I want to continue courting Tori, I want to see her, to hold her, but all of this is making me extremely busy. I don't have much time to really do much of anything.
I was also stupid, because I didn't realize that Tori wanted me to go to the doctor with her today. She kept mentioning it, but it never fully registered that she was hinting to me to go with her. I have to first go and watch Ryanne and Holden for Rob while he goes to a meeting, then I have to go to work for a staff meeting myself at 3:30, plus still work tonight training. I hope that next week I won't be quite so busy, and I am able to spend more time with Tori.
Oh well, i'll have to figure all of this out, I just hope that I make the correct decisions. |
